My deepest sympathies on your father’s passing. In many ways I think it’s the hardest part of being an expat/immigrant- the family and friends who are now so much further away, in mileage and time zones - making the celebrations of milestones and presence during more somber events so much more complicated. Thank you for sharing your father with us.

Lovely. I lost my dad a few years ago, so I’m really feeling your second post. And we live in the Algarve so are glad we didn’t need to worry about the crowds in Lisbon during the pope’s visit! But we’re enjoying the photos!

So sorry for your loss. Obrigada for your note, I struggle with the same. We just went back for my mom’s 101 birthday. I keep thinking it’s the last time I’ll see her, kind of felt it this time, we’ll see.

Thank you for sharing your father with us. Your comments about leaving family to move abroad resonated with me and I am sure with many of your readers. Living our best lives is what our parents want for us, even if it takes us far away. So sorry for your loss.

I'm proud to share my father - he was a great role model and we're all going to miss him. Even though I'm sure he would have loved to have Paul and I living closer to the family, I know in my heart he was proud that I was returning to the roots of my heritage. I hope I can honor him by finding out more about my Portuguese ancestors. - CW

Parkinson's is such a vicious disease. I am so sorry for your loss, but hope he is off doing amazing things wherever we may go next.

Thanks for your comment, Cie.

Yes, Parkinson's is a terrible disease. And although we'll never know if Dad actually had Parkinson's or some other neurological disorder (there was never a consensus as he only displayed some of the symptoms of Parkinson's), I'm grateful that he went peacefully and didn't struggle for too long.

I have no doubt his next journey will be an amazing one for him. And I'm sure he'll try to get in as much golf as possible! - CW

Such a beautiful tribute to your Dad. Im so sorry for your loss. Even though my Dad passed in 2007, your video brought him back to me for a moment, also a man of that sharp dressing era and supreme love of family above all else.

Thank you for your comment, Sandi.

That era was certainly an era of sharp-dressing guys! When I visited my Dad this past May, I noticed in his closet that he still had a wardrobe of golf shorts with matching golf shirts - racks of them! Even in his declining years, Dad was still a sharp dresser.

I'm sorry for your loss as well. Hold good memories of him close to your heart. - CW

A lovely tribute to your dad. I am sorry for your loss, but he will remain with you more closely that our can imagine. I know this because my dad passed away in 2002.

Thank you for your comment, Betsy. I don't think a daughter ever gets over the loss of their dad, especially if he was the type of man a daughter could look up to. I'm sorry for your loss as well. Wishing you peace and good memories you can hold in your heart. - CW
