Thank you Carol! This is a great compilation of places to reach out to. We have a large and very active WhatsApp community in Braga and within that community we have a group specifically for people to do volunteer work. I am going to share this list and your blog with the group if you don’t mind.

Thanks, I can’t seem to be able to access the PDF, I sign up and then when I click the link to receive the information I am in the sign up area again.

I received an email from the platform I use that says you downloaded the Giving Back PDF successfully. Have you checked your downloads folder on your computer? If you are still having trouble just send me a message using this link and I will try to help: https://www.ourportugaljourney.com/p/getting-in-touch

I was able to open the link, sadly my email can’t distinguish good mail from bad. I found it! Thank you so very much!

A really helpful list. Thank you. I volunteer in a local restaurant as it is quite difficult to find people to do small tasks to help out. It is very satisfying and helps me with the language.

Thank you for this post. Very important volunteer work. I will send your information to our local "grapevine".

I really appreciate this post. Hope many expats sign up to volunteer. Over the course of my life I’ve done volunteer work in many countries and I’ve always found it very meaningful and good for making connections. In Lisbon, you can also volunteer in a charity shop Dona Ajuda (behind Continente in Rato). And if you are looking for gardening activities, British Cemetery has a volunteer gardening group.

What a great idea for finding a way to give back to your adopted home. I’m sharing the links for workaway and idealist with a young family member who has started thinking about spending some extended time abroad.

Thanks Carol for all this info re volunteering. Please add Porto Kind to your list. It’s a new nonprofit in the Porto area (founded by a women’s international group), currently supporting three Portuguese organisations. Read about it here. We welcome new members!
