I had never visited Portugal. In fact, I had never visited Europe. Why? Well, depending on the time in my life, I either didn’t have the opportunity, the time off, or the resources. The farthest I had been out of the United States was Canada and Bermuda.

The closest I ever came to visiting Europe, was when our friends asked us to take a trip with them to visit their relatives in Italy. That was in the early 1980’s. We didn’t go because we wanted to buy a house, and we couldn’t swing doing both.

Paul on the other hand lived and traveled in Europe during the 1970’s. He was in the U.S. Naval Reserves and his ship was home ported in Naples, Italy for 2 years. He visited many countries including Portugal. Throughout the years, he often told me that at some point in our lives together, we were going to travel to Europe, and he was going to show me all the places he had visited.

Our retirement years seemed like the perfect time to do it!

Until next time…

Obrigada!

Carol.

My wife Lois and I are having the same experience. She had never been to Europe. I, on the other hand, born in US, grew up in Brasil, live in Canada, during my US Air Force stint, lived in Spain and Germany. Finally got to take my wife to visit Europe 2018 in Austria and my old hangout in Garmisch-Partnekirchen in Bavarian Alps. She now wants to see more and moving to Portugal would be a great way to show her :-)
