Ride through Portugal’s UNESCO-listed Douro Valley aboard the Historic Douro Train. This vintage railway journey from Régua to Tua offers panoramic river views, vineyard landscapes, Port wine tastings, and a glimpse into Portugal’s rail heritage.
Hi Elma. Welcome to the Our Portugal Journey community and thank you for becoming a Supporting Subscriber! We did the Rabelo boat tour on a different day than the Historic Douro Train ride. I would recommend not trying to do both in one day. We stayed in Peso da Régua for 2 nights. This is where the train ride departs. It’s about a 3-hour ride. Then, we spent 3 nights in Pinhão, where we did some exploring, relaxing, and taking the Rabelo boat ride. We chose the 2-hour boat ride, but there are shorter ones if that is your preference. - CW
What a beautifully detailed portrait of the Douro’s slower heartbeat. I love how you capture not only the history of the line but the sensory choreography of the ride—the gleam of oak, the heat of the afternoon air, the Port on the tongue. It feels like more than a train trip; it’s Portugal teaching us how to travel by rhythm instead of schedule.
Hi Carol, this is lovely, thanks! Did you do the boat tour on the same day?
