I know someone who lived in New Zealand for a couple of years. A friend of hers from NZ wrote to her this past week saying almost the exact same thing as your friend at the cycling event. I think pity is exactly the word to use for the state we are in right now. I look at history, and I don't see a time where a country was this deeply divided and then was able to come back together peacefully.
