Thank you! We have met many nice people - either through blogs or by joining some of the expat community Facebook groups. You'll find a welcoming and supportive group of people here in Portugal!
I know I will probably never get to be an expat in Portugal, if only because my husband wouldn’t want to be that far from his siblings. But I do enjoy thinking about the possibility and love reading your blog to find out what it would really be like!
Carol- I thoroughly enjoy your blog as well as Nancy’s and read them both faithfully! I, too, am very liberal so there is always some heart string Nancy pulls, but your blog is filled with helpful and interesting information that I know I would find enormously helpful were I to move to Portugal. I love where I currently live in New England, but my frustrations with and fears of the political landscape here keep me tuned in to options and Portugal remains near the top of my list.
Know that you, and others like you, serve as a reassuring force and a voice of credibility for those if us who are considering such a move. I look so forward to getting each new piece from you and you write beautifully. And I love the photos so much too! Thank you for doing this.
Well...we're far from fluency. We know basic phrases but need to learn much more. When you live in urban/suburban areas of Portugal you get lazy because so many Portuguese people (and expats) speak English. We're planning on taking more lessons, but for now, we just listen to the Portuguese language and pick up a lot of it that way. Also, we try to learn Portuguese the way many Portuguese learn English - subtitles on television!
thank you for all of these. i've been following a few and look forward to more. i find the 'community' of expats in portugal just wonderful.
